Bathtub Reglazing
Everyone wants to save money and there are many things that can be done by the doit-yourselfer. Bathtub reglazing is definitely not a project where the cost saving
benefit is worth it. The chemicals need to be handled by professionals, so the best
chemicals are not available to DIY’ers. The professionals at Blazing Plumbing and

sprayer that heats the product to get a nice shine and the product will bond and fuse
together. The kits are brushed on and leave obvious marking and do NOT go on
smooth and shiny. You will not have the same look. The biggest problem we see is

bathtub reglazing process was developed in the 1950’s due to the inconvenience and
high cost of replacing a bathtub. Many people refer to the process as reglazing,
refinishing or resurfacing. The process and chemicals are essentially the same. The
difference only takes place depending on if it’s fiberglass, cast iron, acrylic or tile.
Fiberglass tub showers have to be sanded prior to refinishing. Cast iron or steel tubs
are prepped with a chemical so the new finish can adhere to the old. Having started
and still being a plumbing company, we can certainly replace a bathtub, but bathtub
reglazing is much more affordable. Any drips or leaks need to be repaired prior to
refinishing or the finish will be compromised. Our plumbing division can help with

and behind the toilet. The bathroom should also be swept to prevent any extra dust

Preparing for your Reglazing Project
Note: Your surface will need 24 hours to dry after the completion of the project, before using.
- The project space MUST have running water and electricity on the day of the project. (We cannot use an extension cord from an adjacent unit)
- All faucet drips and drain leaks must be repaired prior to the project date. (Let us know if you need our Plumbing service)
- Remove everything from the bathroom prior to our arrival (i.e..Soaps, shampoos, trashcans, towels, plungers, everything on the vanity countertop, all pictures hanging on the walls, rugs, hanging plants, shower curtains) If the project is not in a bathroom, remove all items within a 10 foot radius around the area which will be worked on.
- Give the bathroom a good wipe down removing dust, hair and spider webs before the technician arrives, so that he has a great space to be able to create beautiful results. Anything in the air can settle in the finish creating dust bumps or larger particles.
- Most work should be completed, if doing any remodeling, prior to any reglazing.
- No other work should be going on inside or outside on the day we are working.
- We use Low VOC, FDA and EPA approved products. However, there is an odor that is offensive to some people and animals. When possible, we do ventilate. Some bathrooms have no window to vent and this increases odor. There are no dangerous chemicals to be concerned about. It is Pleasdrying, but you should stay out of the bathroom for most of the day.
